Living La Reve

Living in Las Vegas is a little like living in a dream world.  The lights, the shows, the smoke and mirrors of magic shows, or the people watching of the most extraordinary kind.  While we don’t always go to the Strip, we don’t mind going down to watch an occasional show when friends or family come to town.

Many people that live here never want to go to the Strip.  While we are still considered newcomers, I don’t think I would ever tire completely of making the occasional trip down there.  Whether it is to visit the many art galleries, catch a show, grab a burger at Bobby’s Burger Palace, or to go shopping somewhere in particular; I always feel a little more electric when I’m on the strip.  It must be all those solar powered kilowatts buzzing around down there.

By far, our favorite show to take visitors to is La Reve at the Wynn.  La Reve means the Dream which is very appropriate for this fantastical journey into the main character’s dreamscape as she is confronted by the choice between true love and dark desire.  The show is set in the Wynn’s aquatic theater in the round which holds more than 1 million gallons of water.  La Reve is redesigned every 6 months so I always feel I’m seeing something new and spectacular when I attend.  Like most dreams, there are confusing and random scenes which I can really relate to.  (Sometimes I wake up from my own dreams so confused.)

The sheer complexity of this show leaves me in awe.  All of the performers are SCUBA certified and the acrobatics are nothing short of amazing.  There are ethereal moments and moments of sheer anxiety as a diver falls over 80 feet into the water.

If you are a Las Vegas local, there is a local’s discount and no seat is more than 40 feet from the stage.  You can’t beat that!
